Non-global zones in Solaris 11.1 (Part – 1)

After configuring the repository in Solaris 11 as shown in previous article which is mandatory step. I have proceed with zone installation on Solaris 11.1

Here concept of zones is different from Solaris 10 zones.

Four types of non-global exist in Solaris 11.1 compare to Solaris 10 which was having whole root and sparse zone only.

a) None or whole-root non global zone
b) strict
c) fixed-configuration
d) flexible configuration

I have installed one test zone with name testzone1 which by default is whole root zone.

root@solaris11:~# zoneadm -z testzone1 install

For me it took 1529.603 seconds

root@solaris11:~# zoneadm list -cv
ID NAME STATUS PATH BRAND IP
0 global running / solaris shared
1 testzone1 running /zones/testzone1 solaris excl

root@solaris11:~# zlogin testzone1
[Connected to zone ‘testzone1’ pts/2]
Oracle Corporation SunOS 5.11 11.1 September 2012

In the info of non-global zone one main parameter is file-mac-profile which by default is blank or none. I will change this parameter in coming article to explain different type of non-global zones.

root@solaris11:/repo-pool/zfs1# zonecfg -z testzone1 info
zonename: testzone1
zonepath: /zones/testzone1
brand: solaris
autoboot: false
bootargs:
file-mac-profile:
