How to install iperf on RHEL ?

In this article I am going to show you the procedure to install iperf utility on RHEL servers.

1) We need to download the zip file from the below link using wget command on server.

[root@Linux65-1 ~]# wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/iperf/iperf-2.0.5.tar.gz?use_mirror=random

2) After downloading the file uncompress it.

[root@Linux65-1 ~]# tar xzf iperf-2.0.5.tar.gz\?use_mirror\=random

3) Go into the iperf directory and run the configure command. You need gcc compilers installed on server.

[root@Linux65-1 ~]# cd iperf-2.0.5
[root@Linux65-1 iperf-2.0.5]# ./configure –prefix=/usr/local
checking for a BSD-compatible install… /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane… yes
checking for gawk… gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)… yes
checking for g++… g++
checking whether the C++ compiler works… yes
checking for C++ compiler default output file name… a.out
checking for suffix of executables…
checking whether we are cross compiling… no

4) After completion of above, issue the make command.

[root@Linux65-1 iperf-2.0.5]# make
make  all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/root/iperf-2.0.5′
Making all in compat

5) Finally below command.

[root@Linux65-1 iperf-2.0.5]# make install

After the successful execution of all we are good to use iperf utility.

Note : Outputs are truncated to keep the article concise.
